API Terms of Service

These terms govern use of the macOSicons API. By requesting an API key or calling the API, you agree to them. They work alongside the site Terms of Service — the license icon creators grant when submitting to macOSicons is what lets the API distribute their icons to you and your users. If you don't agree with these terms, don't use the API.

The API processes account and API-key data on your behalf. For details on how I collect, use, and share personal data — including the third-party processors involved — see the Privacy Policy.

1. Use of the API

• You can use the API in commercial and non-commercial projects alike. The free tier is sized for personal projects, evaluation, and small tools; paid plans raise the limits for high-volume or production use. The free tier may change over time. Paid API tiers are billed under sections 6 and 7 of the site Terms of Service, including the refund and withdrawal rules there.
• There is one hard limit: don't resell or repackage the API or the icon library itself as a product. Charging for an app or service that uses the API is fine; charging people for the icons themselves, or for access to them, is not.
• You may not use the API for any illegal or unauthorized purpose, and you agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Apps distributed to end users should have each user obtain their own API key, or proxy requests through your own server, rather than embedding a shared key.

2. Icon licensing and redistribution

• Icons served by the API are hosted under the license creators grant when submitting to macOSicons, which covers distribution through the API and through third-party apps and integrations built on it. Your integration may search, fetch, cache, and display icons, and let its users download and apply them. You may cache responses for up to 30 days to serve your users; you may not build an offline mirror or a searchable copy of the catalogue.
• Each icon remains the property of its creator and stays subject to any license its creator provides.
• You may not claim ownership of icons obtained through the API, sell the icons themselves, or bulk-export the library to build a competing catalog.

3. Attribution

• Wherever your integration shows or applies an icon, preserve attribution: credit macOSicons.com as the source and show the creator credit the API returns (the credit and uploadedBy fields), where your interface reasonably allows.
• Don't strip or overwrite attribution metadata from API responses before passing icons on to your users.
• Pass these rules on: your own terms must tell your users that icons stay the property of their creators, that attribution must be kept, and that the icons can't be resold.

4. API keys

• You're responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your API key.
• You may not share your API key with any third party.
• I may revoke API keys that violate these terms or abuse the service.

5. Rate limits and fair use

The API is rate-limited according to your plan. Excessive use or abuse may result in temporary or permanent throttling, or revocation of your key.

6. Changes to the API

I may modify or discontinue parts of the API. I'll give at least 30 days' notice of breaking changes or discontinuation, except where a change is needed for security or legal reasons, and I'm not liable for modifications, discontinuation, or downtime beyond what section 8 provides.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The API is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither macOSicons.com nor I are liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the API, and my total liability under these API terms is limited to the amount you paid for API access in the twelve months before the claim, or 50 EUR if you haven't paid anything. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or wilful misconduct, or for anything else that can't be limited under applicable law.

9. Your responsibility for your integration

You're responsible for your app and for how its users use icons obtained through it. You'll indemnify me against third-party claims arising from your integration or from your users' use of icons obtained through it, except to the extent a claim is caused by my breach of these terms.

10. Termination

I may suspend or terminate your API access if you breach these terms or abuse the service. You can stop using the API at any time by deleting your key. Sections 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 survive termination.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law. Any dispute arising from them will be submitted to the competent courts of Spain, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the law of your country of residence.

12. Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time; the date at the top reflects the latest revision. For material changes I'll email API key holders at least 15 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the API after that means you accept the updated terms; if you don't, stop using the API and delete your key. These terms are written in English; translations are provided for convenience, and the English version prevails if they differ.
